SERVICES FOR SENIORS

The Gush Etzion Municipality makes every effort to ensure that every senior resident can maintain a high quality of life while living at home, with the assistance of our diverse services. In addition, The Gush Etzion Community Center also offers a wide range of activities and options especially for senior residents aged 60+ or 80+.

Seniors Culture Center

The center organizes a highly varied program for the senior population aged 60+ including conferences with the best lecturers in Israel speaking on historical, social, scientific, religious and artistic subjects. There are also options of sport and art activities, movies, volunteering, trips all around Israel and a lot more.

Supportive Community package

This package offers services that provide support for seniors who need help within the community, including a handyman for small household repairs, an emergency call button, and a monthly outing. Membership involves a monthly fee.

Seniors Club Efrat

The social club is intended for seniors ages 80+ and runs 3 mornings a week. Activities include classes in Hebrew and in English, workshops, arts & crafts, music, cooking, and trips to various places in Israel. The participation fee also includes lunch. Transportation is available from the yishuvim of western Gush Etzion.

Seniors Club Tekoa

The social club for seniors in Tekoa is intended for seniors living in Eastern Gush Etzion. Transportation is available from the surrounding yishuvim. The club boasts a rich program of workshops, exercise classes and excellent refreshments. The program is adapted for Hebrew, English and Russian speakers.

Kollel Alon Shvut

The Department for Social Services supports Kollel Alon Shvut, which is active five mornings a week. The kollel offers a Torah and Jewish philosophy study program for seniors. It is located in the synagogue of the new neighborhood in Alon Shvut.

Enrichment Workshops

Bimonthly workshops are available for people caring for their aging parents. The workshops address various issues connected to care for the elderly.  Location alternates between Efrat and Gush Etzion.

Seniors Care Center (Melabev)

The center is available 5 days a week for seniors who suffer from cognitive decline.  The seniors are taken care of in a warm atmosphere and enjoy a diverse program of workshops. A warm meal is also offered daily. Transportation is provided from all of the yishuvim in Gush Etzion.

Individual Services (offered by Social Services):

– Assistance and guidance through the application process for various stipends from Social Security (welfare/income support/disability and special services)

– Information on welfare organizations and foreign worker employment companies that work in the Gush

–  Financial assistance for the needy

– Assistance with guardianship and medical power of attorney, and support throughout the process of moving into a nursing home
